The Aitkin High School senior class all went on a trip to Breezy Point Resort Friday as part of Senior Skip Day. Seniors left the high school at 8:30 a.m. and the 40 minute bus ride to the resort was filled with music and laughter.
At noon, seniors were treated to a mexican themed lunch, and dinner later in the day featured a rib feast, chicken alfredo stuffed noodles, and mashed potatoes and gravy. For both lunch and dinner there was plentiful chilled lemonade and ice-water. Seniors also commented on the food at Breezy. Jaren Johnson said, “Higher quality food was served to us.” Brittany Packer said, “I loved the stuffed shells, and the salad.”
Some of the absolute favorite or most memorable moments at Breezy Point:
“Probably watching a group of people running in a single file line to jump off the end of the dock, Along with people falling off the paddleboards,” Brittany Packer shared.
Vanessa Lee commented, ”Probably going paddle boarding and hanging out with friends that I normally don’t hang out with. The staff was really friendly and there was always something to do.”
Jaren Johnson said, ”I’d say my most favorite part was being able to be free and swim and hangout with friends the whole day and most memorable would be the ‘remember when’s.’”
Ashlyn Drehr said,” My most memorable was going paddleboarding with my best friend!”
Chandra McDonald reminisced,”Definitely just being with everyone for the last time was my most memorable.”
(A Female senior) shared with editorial staff that “My favorite part was sneaking onto a private beach with (another female senior).”
Everything went according to plan, including renting two paddle boats, a few stand-up paddle boards, and a few kayaks. Overall it was a “breezy day,” not too hot, not too windy, a perfect day for a retreat. Later in the day after dinner was served, seniors reminisced on the past days, with a segment called “remember when’s.” All students submitted short stories or statements on things we remembered from the past years at Aitkin High School. After the “rember when’s,” Jaren Johnson performed an unplanned mini concert for a group of students.
The staff at Breezy Point thanked the seniors and chaperones for their respect and kind nature. “This was an awesome group of students,” said one employee.
Before loading the busses to leave, A drawing for a few “goodie bags” from an anonymous donor were given out. Each bag had significant value and connection to the community. The group got back to Aitkin High School around 8:45 p.m.
