Last day of school sees changes this year

With just a few days left in the school year, students are looking forward to the end of the year. The seniors are well into their senior slide and planning the Senior Prank. The rest of the school just waits for the last day of school to mark the start of summer.
It had become a tradition at AHS that on the last day of school we have a relaxing celebration day. The fun begins with a pep fest. During the pep fest, the students of AHS say goodbye to the seniors and welcome in the sixth graders as the new students coming to the high school. We normally have a picnic outside and then the celebration day begins.
This year the school is not having a celebration day. Instead we are having classes and a pep fest. Mr. Karelis said, “In the past it has been unorganized and unsupervised.” He says that this way kids will have an opportunity to get involved and he thinks that students will like this better. The pep fest will be like it normally is, but it will be only about an hour long. The pep fest will recognize seniors, sixth graders, perfect attendance, tri-athletes, and a year-end summary of the activities.
The day will begin with 1st hour where students will be doing locker clean out. After 1st hour, the pep fest will be roughly an hour long and then the day will proceed with second hour. The day will follow the normal schedule, but the class periods will be shortened and the day will end with eighth hour.
