What happens to the child within us?

I would like to talk about something that requires the attention of all graduating students across the nation. I want to talk about something that most students have not realized yet. I want to talk about something that most will realize when it’s too late. That something is loss. Now what comes to mind when you hear that last sentence? Death? Sports? No, it is not either of those. This kind of loss is possibly even worse than those. Yes, even death.
Now you may be wondering, “what is worse than death of a loved one?” Well, maybe this can be considered death, but not in the conventional or literal sense. The death is of a kid, the kid inside every one of us. The murderer is The Adult. The Adult kidnaps and sometimes murders the host, in this case us. I want to make it clear that The Adult is not bad, in fact it’s impossible to live in the world without The Adult. You’d have to rely on extra outside help.
Now not everyone has their inner Kid killed off, it’s the ones that have attained a harmony of The Kid and The Adult together that live peaceful lives. The murder does not occur at the same time for everyone. Sometimes The Kid is killed early, sometimes late. For most of us however, the murder occurs at the graduation of High School. Why does The Adult take over the host? Sometimes out of desire to do adult things. Usually it’s for the host to survive the real world because it’s too ugly for The Kid. The Adult is really just The Kid and the “murder” is growing up, maturation. They’re both the same person. The Adult is on the outside while The Kid is inside.
The Adult has many qualities to face the dark reality of the real world. Things like rationality, responsibility, and sensibility. The kid possess things that the adult does not have. Things like happiness. I am not talking the happiness of money, but true inner happiness and tranquility. The Adult and The Kid need each other. They keep each other in check and balance the equation. I guess what I am trying to say is don’t forget who got you all the way to graduation, but don’t be afraid to embrace the unknown world in front of you. With The Kid and The Adult working side by side, you won’t have to be afraid of anything.
