Yearbook judgment not needed

The most important time of the year is here guys; it’s yearbook week. For the next few days we all get to find out who the crowned victors in the Hall of Fame are, who’s face is pictured the most throughout, and finally viewing the end product of what this year has produced. So, as you are all passing around your yearbooks for your BFF’s to sign before you head off into different directions this summer, I want to let you guys in on a couple of secrets within the yearbook committee.
First, we want you all to know that we aren’t here to ruin your high school career by putting in that one picture that makes you look “fat.” In fact, we do the exact opposite. We go through every picture, we analyze, edit, and put ourselves in your position when choosing photos. We don’t want anyone to be uncomfortable or embarrassed, but it is our job to pick the best and most interesting picture that can help paint the picture of the scene at hand. So please don’t overanalyze that one “bad” picture of you because if it’s in there, it is serving a purpose that we tried to fulfill.
Second, if you feel like you weren’t pictured enough, get involved in something. We try to get everyone pictured at least three times throughout the book, and we almost accomplished this goal. However, it is hard for us to do when you aren’t doing anything. The people who are pictured 10-15 times is because they are involved in clubs, sports, and go to events to support AHS sponsored activities. If you don’t do those things it truly makes it hard for us to get fun candid photos that we want to put in the book. We don’t like filling pages just to fill them, so if you want to have a better chance of being put in the yearbook, get more involved with our community here at AHS.
Third, we are human and we make mistakes. We try our very hardest to limit those mistakes and we truly apologize if our mistake dampered your experience with the yearbook. But in saying that, please don’t point out the mistakes to us. Trust me, we know when we’ve messed up and I guarantee that we have already found them and feel horrible. It is a gut-wrenching feeling when you’ve spent more than 100 hours over the last seven months making something for the entire student body to enjoy and the first thing you hear from someone is that you’ve messed something up. It’s like when you ride a roller coaster and you're super stoked waiting for it, but when you get on your anxiety builds and builds then finally your stomach drops when you go down. That uncomfortable feeling is just there and it can either turn to excitement throughout your ride or fear. Your reaction to our work is a huge deal, so just think about that before you point out our mistakes.
Last, enjoy all the memories that we have made together, especially all you seniors. These last couple of weeks will go fast and before you know it our high school career will have run its course. This book is a recap of our last year together and even though we are all ready for it to be over, it won’t be long before you are looking back at the pages wondering where time went.
