The Aitkin girls varsity softball team had a game on Monday, May 6 against Nashwauk-Keewatin. It was a close game all 7 innings. Pitcher Kailey Plekkenpol and catcher Allie Ehnstrom worked great as partners. Kailey pitched all 7 innings and Allie caught all 7 as well. The ladies were tied up 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning until Kailey Plekkenpol hit a home run making the score 3-2. This is Kailey's third home run of the season. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the bases were loaded with no outs. The gobblers kept Nashwauk-Keewatin from scoring. Kailey threw strike after strike and with two outs and only one out left to get, McKenna MacDonald received a hit to shortstop and threw it to first base Sarah Curtiss, getting that third out.
‘Ohana’ is the Aitkin Girls softball teams moto and that means ‘family, and family means no one is left behind or forgotten’, and they sure show that during their games. The ladies are loud and very supportive with one another during their games. When someone is up to bat they are loud and supportive, cheering on their teammates. When someone strikes out or when someone gets down on themselves their teammates are always there to pick each other up off the ground. Their fans are also very loud and supportive, cheering their ladies on and just being a supportive crowd, a family.
The Lady Gobblers record is now 2-4. This upcoming weekend is full with a tournament at Benilde St. Margaret.
