Have you ever wonder where some past graduates from Aitkin High School are at right now? Hannah Janzen was a class of ‘14 grad who lives in Eden Prairie. Let us start off with her high school experiences!
Her favorite memory at Aitkin High School was that she participated in All-Starz and went to State with her sister, Lizzie, until she was a Junior. She did post-secondary at CLC full time during her junior and senior year. She also loved going to the Beanery with her friends and going to baseball games. She said that her classmates would always have so much fun in Mrs. Cline’s class and she felt like she was able to really connect with the students. She also loved Mr. Hopperstad’s jokes in math and Mrs. Sandberg (retired teacher in business classes) made Hannah feel like Mrs. Sandberg believed that she could do anything she set her heart into! “I had so many great teachers, it’s hard to pick a favorite!" Janzen said. "I have always loved science and was lucky to have Mr. May for a few classes and I feel like I learned a lot from him about finding reliable and relevant evidence — something I will use a lot in my future career.”
With her being in the cities, she misses the friendly atmosphere here at home. She loved being in a smaller school growing up with mostly the same classes that she was with since kindergarten. “ I got a great education, had a good experience with the sports teams I was on and had all the opportunities available to me that I could have needed,” said Hannah. She currently lives in Eden Prairie for her Doctor of Chiropractic in Bloomington at Northwestern Health Sciences University. She will get her degree in April 2020. She had always planned on a medical school that focused on prevention and lifestyle techniques. During her high school years, she didn’t realize that chiropractors could help with more conditions than just aches and pains. Her chiropractor helped her neck pain, blood glucose levels as a type one diabetic, and ear infections. After that, she did all the research and some shadowing with doctors and she fell in love with the idea of offering her future patients a natural approach to wellness.
“I think that students should remember that they really can do whatever it is they set their mind to after graduation," Janzen said. "But that being said, it might take a lot of hard work. It's so worth it to just not worry about what anyone else thinks of you and your dreams and be your own person. My three biggest pieces of advice would be to work hard, have fun being you, and be kind to everyone you meet!”
