Noel Bailey is a director on the Aitkin School Board. He has been married to Elma Bailey for 26 years. He retired from teaching in Aitkin and is currently a part-time bailiff at the Aitkin County courthouse. He also volunteers at the hospital. Bailey has a masters degree in education and taught for 35 years before deciding to run for school board
“I wanted to give back a little bit,” Bailey said.
Bailey was born and raised in Aitkin and spent 26 years teaching here. During his many years at the school, he was a three-sport athlete throughout high school and was inducted into a few different Halls of Fame. He coached wrestling for 36 years and overall he is a four-time Hall of Famer, including a national one for wrestling.
In the short amount of time that Bailey has been on the school board the accomplishment that he is most proud of is that of the selection of the new superintendent, Mr. Dan Stifter. He is also excited about the school renovations and improving opportunities for students. One of his overall goals for the school board is making the image of the schools better in the eyes of the general public.
The negatives that Bailey has noticed while being on the school board is the fact that no matter what decision you make, “you're not going to please everyone all the time.” Another not-so pleasant thing that school board members have to deal with is that not all the issues that they deal with are nice, but they have to deal with them anyways.
