The softball team had their first practice of the year on Monday, March 9. They practice everyday after school or before school and their times of practice vary. The coaches for this season are Mr. Henke (Varsity), and Kristy Hoge (JV).
Due to bad weather, the girls had to cancel their first away game against Moose Lake-Willow River on April 7. Last year they wrapped their season up with a 7-7 record and took second in the Great River Conference.
The girls had their first scrimmage March 31 in Milaca. The score was not kept for the scrimmage. Saturday, April 11 they had their second scrimmage at home against Hill City. The team opened the season with a 10-8 win against Proctor before falling 8-1 against Ogilvie. The Gobblers bounced back Thursday with a 7-4 win against Isle as Rachel Curtiss pitched the complete game and recorded six strikeouts. Curtiss also went 2-for-4 at the plate. Paige Westerlund and Taylor Ehnstrom each finished the game 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI.
Aitkin takes on Crosby-Ironton at home tonight to wrap up their four-game week.
