Sprinter? Is it spring or winter?

It’s no secret that this spring hasn’t been the warmest we’ve ever had, but all the snow and cold weather is proving to be an issue for the kids and coaches that are dealing with spring sports. With all the snow, nobody can really practice outside, which means every spring sport practice is inside. This creates space problems — and time problems.
Morning practices are fine, but when you’re having to do it everyday, I’m sure you’d get pretty tired. Having to practice tennis in the lunchroom is okay, but not when you can’t hit the balls and all you can really do is work on footwork and hand-eye skills.
When I asked what she was doing to keep things fresh since they’re inside so often, tennis coach Jen Waldorf said, “We’ve been working on basic hand-eye skills, footwork, and strength. But sometimes we also share the old gym with the track team, so we’ve also been playing pickleball and badminton.”
All of those things are important, but it’s hard to really get good when you can’t play the actual game. Hopefully the snow clears up soon and the weather starts to get a little warmer. Game time is coming, and we need to be prepared.
