Mrs. Christine Carlson took over as the 10th grade English and the American Literature teacher after Mr. Jacob Jaskowiak left to teach in Saudi Arabia. She came to Aitkin because she loves the area and wanted to get out of Wisconsin. She likes the close community and how the parents in Aitkin care about education. She has two children: A daughter named Hannah who is 22 years old and lives in the Twin Cities, and a son named Jacob who is 20 years old and lives in Texas and is a member of the Air Force.
She enjoys kayaking, traveling, and also owns a side business that sells vintage furniture. Carlson has traveled to Scotland, England, Mexico, and all around the Caribbean. Some of her greatest experiences were getting her teaching degree and seeing her son graduate from the Air Force.
Carlson used to work in the mortgage business as a trainer for 15 years. Then, Carlson went back and got her teaching degree and has taught for six years in Wisconsin and Minnesota. She says that she is “a geek about reading and writing” and has loved English her whole life.
She “taught in a school full of hypocrites” before and feels a better connection here. She likes the students, the administration, other teachers, and the paraprofessionals here at Aitkin High School. Carlson said this is the “best group of students” she has ever had. In her mind, the administration is supportive and listens to find the best way to solve any issues. When asked what advice she would give to the student body Carlson said, “Strive to strengthen your strengths and not concentrate so much on your weaknesses.”
