PSEO the right choice for some

Aitkin High School offers PSEO, which stands for Post Secondary Enrollment Options. That gives students the choice to go through Central Lakes College and take classes required to graduate high school but also get college credit. Another choice that high-schoolers have is college classes in the schools, where teachers in our high school teach at a college level in certain classes.
The nice thing about this is that it’s free. AHS pays for students to go to CLC. CLC offers many different classes. Even though this sounds like it could be fantastic, teens may struggle to keep up with college homework if they cannot stay organized and are not mature, according to Aiyana Oman, a PSEO student from AHS.
Oman goes to CLC, where she has attended classes since her junior year. She enjoys it very much. “The best part about going to college is having the freedom to choose everything,” Oman said. “I get full independence. You are in charge of yourself.” She also mentioned that you can choose the classes you take, the amount of time you're in school, and how long you take them. Oman added, “Some people who aren't ready to be organized and be in charge of their lives fully — it can be a challenge.
“It’s been a great learning experience and I’ve made tons of friends who are interested in the same things I am. Plus the whole thing is free and I will be able to graduate with my generals.”
