On January 21 Mrs. Gloria Curtiss and Mr. Jason Cline moved to different positions in the high school office. Cline moved into the position of Dean of Students and Gloria is now the Athletic Director.
Now that Cline is the Dean of Students, he has a few plans that he would like to put into action. “I want to be there for kids,” he said. More specifically, he would like to be there for students who are struggling and help them develop into better students and people. Cline mentioned that he is eager to establish connections within the student body and be the fun presence.
As the Dean of Students, Cline is currently in a special situation where he is teaching and does his work as the dean. He usually handles disciplining the elementary and high school students who have bus referrals and attendance issues, among many other things.
Cline is very excited about the new change from the Activities Director to the Dean of Students. He is ready to embrace the challenge and learning curve.
Curtiss replaced Cline the Activities Director after serving as Secretary for the Activities Director, and she is very ambitious about making some changes. The main thing that she is focusing on is getting more events scheduled for the arts. She is actively “looking for more opportunities for the programs we already have,” as opposed to bringing new activities. Gloria has already scheduled One Act Subsections and Sections to be here at Aitkin High School and is working on sending some art students to an art competition.
“I’m excited about our programs in general and the enthusiasm of people willing to work to make schedules easier on kids,” Curtiss said about her excitement for her new job. She also added that she is excited to see better cooperation between the different departments in the school.
Curtiss said she is mainly “making the puzzle pieces work” with the activities along with focusing on transportation, scheduling, and distributing facilities among the school district. She emphasized that the job title is Activities Director, not Athletic Director.
There is currently a Facebook page that Gloria made for events going on in the Aitkin School District. The link for that page can be found here.
Curtiss said that the main purpose of the page is to inform parents of the events because the current calendar is very hard to understand and use. She also got Aitkin events on the Mid-state Conference page. Both Curtiss and Cline are extremely happy with their new jobs in the school.
