Split homeroom is common concern

With the start of the 2022-2023 school year, AHS rolled out a new schedule. This new schedule saw the removal of eighth hour as well as the splitting of fourth hour for juniors and seniors. Given that this is a change that impacted everyone, it would be insightful to hear people’s opinions on the matter.
“I think it’s far more efficient than last year,” social studies teacher Mr. Dustin Richters said. “I would say 85-90% of students didn’t use eighth hour to actually work on homework. I believe that teachers provide enough time in class to finish their assignments.”
Mr. Richters did say he would make one change to the schedule. “I would just figure out a way to not have homeroom split,” he said. “The second homeroom doesn’t really allow for a lot of time to get settled down and work.”
Gavin Davis echoed Mr. Richter’s comment.
“I could care less about 8th hour, I just hate that our homeroom was split,” he said. “Having 4th hour split is really inconvenient. It should be fixed.”
