Aitkin is now offering a fishing club as an extracurricular activity. For her Senior Project, Kaija Davies, along with help from Mr. Jason Cline, started a fishing club at A.H.S. The club has been working towards doing tournaments and awarding the members who do well. There are club tournaments but also they are working on going over to Brainerd to compete in a tournament. Cline’s excitement resonates through the club for “a lake that’s not as far away, to be able to get our lines in the water.”
Cline is hoping to get as many as 50 members to join the club. Right now they are sitting at around 26 students. At the first official meeting, the club had 20 people, the Coach from Brainerd commented on how amazing that number was for the first meeting.
Cline is ecstatic because the club gives opportunities for athletes and non-athletes to compete in extra-curricular activities. Another benefit of the Fishing Club is if a member gets far enough in a tournament they will win scholarship money. There are many different leagues that the club can join but currently, their sole focus is on the bass league.
The club is looking for volunteers, boaters, and parents that are willing to get involved. If you would like to help you can send Mr. Cline an email at [email protected]. If you are looking to join the club, the only requirements to join is to follow the MSHSL requirements. You also have to join the Bass Federation to get insured. This club is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in fishing and anyone who just wants to fish more.
