“Big heads” have been the new trend this year in sports at Aitkin High School. Teri Larson, our yearbook advisor and a teacher at Aitkin High, is the brains to the whole operation at the school. She got the idea of the “big heads” from her children’s old school in Osseo-Fairchild, Wisconsin. The students there started making big coaches heads and “big heads” of the newest hot celebrities. Larson took the idea and brought it to Aitkin to make the senior’s last year in sports and activities even more memorable.
Larson started making these “big heads” in her Card Shop class at the beginning of the year. They made the heads for the football, volleyball, and girl’s tennis teams for all of the seniors. Volleyball player Taylor Crotty said, “it gives the games an interesting twist and gets the students more involved with the teams. I remember the second section volleyball game it was awesome to look into the riled up crowd and see people using the “big heads” as props to pump everyone up.” The “big heads” were made to display seniors in every activity in the school to increase school pride.
After her Card Shop class was over, Larson decided that she should still make the senior’s heads inflate (even more than they are). She gave the task to her Yearbook engineers. She only has the spring season left to make “big heads.” The Yearbook class will be working hard on getting the baseball, softball, track and field, golf, musical, and boys tennis team’s seniors “big heads” before they start their season. Make sure to look for the “big heads” in the gymnasium and the hallways to find Aitkins outstanding students.
