The All Starz High Kick Dance Team danced their last two times this season on Saturday, Feb. 18. The first time they danced on Saturday was in the preliminary round. They advanced to the final round in the state tournament with a first place rank from every judge. After a nap and a quick run through of their dance, the All Starz were called on for finals.
They performed second in the finals at about 5:45 p.m. The fans were in an uproar when the dancers took the floor. Some fans were dressed in their best pirate attire to support the “Curse of the Black Pearl” theme. After the rest of the dances had been finished, the dancers came back onto the court for awards. Mya Conway and Megan Host were announced All State Dance Tournament Team. After that they announced the teams from third place to first place. The lowest score was considered the winner. The third place team, Yellow Medicine East, received the third place trophy with a score of 16. The second place team, BOLD, came in second with a score of 13.5. Aitkin came in first with a score of five. That means that every judge gave the All Starz a first place ranking as the All Starz won their fourth consecutive state championship.
The All Starz also were awarded the academic award for the state competition. Emily Harmon, Shelly Stephani, and Lizzy Ryan were also three of thirteen girls in the section to receive individual academic awards.
There were nine seniors on the All Starz: Abby Bobenmoyer, Justice Ramos, Marisa Kittleson, Sarah Pederson, Elizabeth Ryan, Emily Harmon, and the three captains, Mya Conway, Shelly Stephani, and Megan Host.
They all went out with a bang this year sweeping the State competition in both Jazz and High kick. They should be “truly honored to be part of the team,” as said by senior Shelly Stephani. Congratulations to the All Starz and farewell to the seniors that helped lead Aitkin’s team to victory this year.
