“Treatie 4 UR Sweetie” is a junior high student council activity that has been enjoyed by the students and staff for five years. This year, the cards and treats will be sold from Feb. 7-13. The student council voted on donating the profits they make to a local non-profit organization called S.A.M., which stands for Scooby’s Animal Mission. S.A.M. is run by Scooby Harmon and many volunteers and friends to help mistreated animals.
The treats are sold for $1 each. Students and staff can choose the color card they want delivered and pick between chocolate or sweets and these can be purchased during the lunch periods. The cards and candy will be delivered on Valentines Day during lunch. For the past three years, the estimated average being sold with the delivery service was 250 carnations and 60-80 candy bars.
When talking about why the student council does this, Mrs. Croatt responded, “The reason why we end up doing it, one it’s a fun excuse to do something fun. In the school kids tend to get kind of excited about it, especially the high schoolers because now they’ve done it a few years, (and) they had it when they were middle schoolers. But the main thing why we do it is we want to do some kind of giving back, community engagement a little bit. Basically service learning.”
