The art students have been hard at work this last year taking classes from drawing/scratch art, painting, printmaking, and acrylic. Some students were recently awarded $400 in cash prizes from the Aitkin Riceland Whitetail Chapter Art competition and have the opportunity to have their artwork on display at the Beanery starting May 24. Mrs. Meirose, the art teacher at AHS, said, “We really enjoyed being a part of it and the students enjoyed having it at the Beanery. I just appreciate the support the Aitkin Riceland Whitetail Chapter gave students and their support of arts.”
The chapter dispersed the cash among the 11 artists chosen. The winners included: Jeremiah Smythe and Zack Macdonald in the junior high category; drawing/scratch art winners were Janie Bobenmoyer and Bryanna Baugh; watercolor went to Katelyn Kruse and Megan Hagen; acrylic was awarded to Kaija Davies; and printmaking went to Taylor Ehnstrom and Jeremy Blazek. The overall winners were Sophia Magnuson and Aiyana Oman. Magnuson said, “I chose my scratchboard from wildlife art for the competition. We could pick any animal and I chose a dog because it’s man’s best friend.”
Down below are just a few pieces from the gallery that is on display. If you would like to view more check it out at The Beanery.
