Fond memories of faculty's proms past

People try to look their best for prom. No doubt about it. We are used to the dresses of nowadays, but what about when some of our favorite teachers went to prom? Not only has the style changed, but so has the music. When I asked some teachers what songs were played at their proms, they replied with such songs as, “Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer, “Truly Madly Deeply” by Savage Garden, “Poison” by Bell Biv DeVoe, and many more. Now it’s a lot less ballads as the pop songs change to more repetitive songs.
Brady Taylor has DJ’d multiple dances. He said, “They don’t play too many classics and mainly play the songs of today. We sometimes play songs that our teachers would have danced to at prom like ‘Jump’ (Kris Kross) and ‘Summer of ‘69’ (Bryan Adams). They try to stick to today's hits to stay relevant to the younger generations.”
Also dances have changed quite a bit. Mr. Jason Henke said he recalls line dancing at his prom. Nowadays it’s a lot of fast movement. There are some great group dances such as the Cupid Shuffle.
The fashion has changed a ton as well. From gunny sack dresses to homemade dresses, shawls, sandals, all jewels on the dress, top hats and any thing else you can imagine. That is why we put together this slideshow of pictures to show you what has changed.
As prom season is here and Aitkin High School’s prom is on Saturday, enjoy the following pictures from prom that are sure to be a blast from the past. You can find more about Aitkin’s prom “Enchanted Forest” in Kassidy Pietz’ story.
