Posted Feb. 18, 2015 The Aitkin All Starz dance team captured its second-straight high kick state title at the Class A meet Saturday. It is the team’s seventh state title in school history. "It feels relieving knowing that all of our hard work has paid off," said senior captain Jenna Bordwell. The All Starz finished ahead of second place Yellow Medicine East and third place Crosby-Ironton with a rank score of five. Captains Madisen Kuppich and Mariah Trotter earned high kick all-tournament team honors. Madisen Kuppich said, " The hardest part of state this year was dancing for the last time ever in my high school career." The team finished in second place in jazz on Friday. They fought their way up from a third place finish in the preliminary round. Aitkin was tied with the Marshall School from Duluth after the final round, but came up short after the judges consulted scores. Aitkin won in overall points but the judges decided to give Duluth the win with their rank. Captains Madison Johnson and Jenna Bordwell made the Jazz all-tournament team. When asked what made the Aitkin All Starz a winning team, Madisen Kuppich and Jenna Bordwell responded, "A winning team is a combination of good coaches, strong leaders, hard work, and a family of dancers who strive for perfection." |
