Bridges Academies give students a lift

Nineteen schools participate in prestigious college and career readiness academies from Aitkin to Wadena-Deer Creek. The academies are dedicated to steer students in a general direction by giving them classes that are geared towards a specific area. Some of the ones that our school provides are listed below. They give students a certificate of completion and a green honor cord to wear during graduation. These courses strengthen academic skills and students gain marketable work skills that can be helpful in their job hunt.
These academies help students prepare for college and gain employment skills while still in high school. Aitkin High provides three different academies, where you can gain education and experience in differents college fields of study. You can talk to any of the Bridges Academy teachers or to the guidance counselors, where you will fill an application out on what you achieved.
Restaurant & Culinary Skills: Requirements of the Academy are no more than 2 absences during the model resturant, agree to forfeit lunch period, and achieve an optimum grade. There is also a 33 percent job growth in Central Minnesota. Career options are resort managers, accountants, business managers, bookkeepers, office managers and marketing agents.
Mass Communication: Requirements of getting this Academy is earning a “B” or higher in each course and have at least 90% attendance. Students learn about computer design, journalism and digital photography. There is 21 percent growth in this field, with Web Designer, Journalist, Graphic Designer, Technical Writer, Advertising Manager and Animator as future jobs.
Entrepreneurship: Requirements of this academy is earning a “C” or higher is each of the courses. In this academy you take classes in International Relations, American Government and American Economy. There is 19 percent growth in Central Minnesota. Some of the future jobs are Small Business Owner, Marketing Management, Patten Researcher and Product Manager.
