The Officers Down 5K celebrates officers who put their lives on the line daily to keep our communities safe and honor those who have fallen in the line of duty. While officers give to the community on a daily basis, it is now our time to give back. The race benefitted the Steve Sandberg Memorial Fund and the Officer Down Memorial Page. The day included lunch, live music, activities and much more. There were 1,076 participants who started the race with only 864 finishers. The top male finisher was David Taylor with a time of 18:45 and the top female finisher was Dani Owen with a time of 22:01.
There is a facebook page for this event and there have been numerous sources saying how wonderful of an event it was and that they would love to experience it again. Many people have been asking for it to become an annual event for the town of Aitkin to enjoy year after year, and it brought a lot of business to our small peaceful town in northern Minnesota.
