Heap of the Week: Maybelle

For this week’s heap, we have chosen Maybelle for this prestigious honor. She is a 1992 turquoise Ford Ranger XLT with a purple pinstripe. There were many candidates for this amazing title, but Maybelle stood out the most.
She is owned by the lovely Mya Conway, whose dad found this pickup on Craigslist. He went to pick Maybelle up from the Cities to give it to Mya for a surprise birthday present, but she already knew about it.
This truck only has a few small problems today. It leaks oil, which Mya tried to fix, but it didn’t work. It has very, very bad tires, has a bent cross member, has a hole in the passenger door, the four wheel drive recently broke, no air conditioning, is slightly rusted, and currently makes many unknown noises and no one is sure what’s wrong with it. Also, Maybelle went into the ditch four times this winter, so that didn’t make the problems any better.
Mya really likes the nice turquoise color that it is because it’s very unique. She also likes the new radio she put in it because when she received her truck, it didn’t have a radio because someone stole it. She dislikes that the oil leaks so much that she often has to stop on the side of the road to fill up her oil. Also, the tires tend to deflate a lot so she often has to fill those up too. She says it is very inconvenient and annoying.
The roughest thing that Maybelle has gone through is when Hunter (brother to the owner) put her in the ditch. He was driving south and he ended up in the ditch facing north. The tire was off the rim, she had to get a new front differential, and he bent the cross member. Maybelle had to be towed out of the ditch and that was not for a small chunk of change.
Maybelle is just an all-around good vehicle. She is very useful for driving around at the Crosby mine pits and for having small dance parties on the bed cover. I bet you wish your vehicle was this cool.
