4-H is an organization led by the youth with the support of adults. There is something for everyone. Members can be involved in STEM, Citizenship & Leadership, Healthy Living, Animal Science, Expressive Arts & Communication, Outdoor Adventures, Family & Consumer Science, Gardening & Agriculture, and Environment & Earth Science. In the organization, members obtain leadership skills, great work ethic, and lifelong friendships.
I have been a part of the program for five years now and show my horses. I have learned so many different things that will get me far in life. I love 4-H because it's not like a sports team. It’s an individual sport between me and my animal or project. The more that I practice and the more passionate I am, the farther I am able to get. The county fair is one of my favorite times of the year because I get to show off all of my hard work, meet new and old friends to hang out, and enjoy a week of greasy fair food, rides, and late nights in the barn. In 4-H, I have gained so many friends. They know exactly what I am going through and they will be there for me at my worst and best times. 4-H provides endless opportunities. I can get some great scholarships for colleges, state events or national events, and internships. Honestly, if you are passionate about something, you can talk to your director and they will find it for you or feel free to talk to me.
In 4-H there are so many things you can do and it doesn't just have to be showing animals. You can do whatever you put your mind to. I have learned many life skills during my five years. I am so grateful for the opportunities, I am able to show my creative and design side of me while being a leader of my club. I am also so grateful for the friendships and the endless memories I have made.
Several famous people are 4-H alumni like actress Julia Roberts, singer Jennifer Nettle, and former President Jimmy Carter, just to name a few.
