This year’s prom will take place on Saturday, April 21 in Brainerd at the Luminary Fern. Grand march will still be held at the high school starting at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. the students will board one of three coach buses to head to the venue. Prom will last until midnight and there will be coach buses that take students back to the school when they want to leave.
The prom committee decided they wanted to do something different this year, which is why they switched their location to Brainerd. They are very excited about this different venue and think it will live up to their expectations. “We were sick of having prom in the gym and wanted to make it a more magical, enchanted you could say, night,” said Kayla Thompson, a member of AHS prom committee.
The theme this year is Enchanted Forest, which means everything will be cute, woodsy, and fairy-like. This theme has been an especially fun one for the prom committee to decorate for and every day members of the committee can be seen working in Ms. Tetrick’s room to make sure that all their decorations are perfected, their napkins are ironed, and their ducks are in a row for this upcoming weekend special occasion. “The members of the prom committee have been coming in as much as they can, coordinating with each other for what they can bring, and figuring out what everyone can and cannot get done by themselves in time for the occasion,” said Vanessa Lee, another member of the AHS prom committee.
As of last week, the candidates for prom king and queen/prince and princess were voted for and chosen. The king candidates are David Curtiss, Seth Nordberg, Andrew Hachten, Austin Trotter, and Zak Peterson. The queen candidates are Kassidy Pietz, Grace Liljenquist, Sara Cummings, Saige Arnold, and Kate Kokesh. The prince candidates are Nathan Hagestuen, Quin Miller, Johnny Ryan, and Payton Berg. The princess candidates are Brooklyn Brezinsky, Kayla Welle, Jillian MacDonald, and Maddy Slette. Coronation of the candidates will be at Grand March.
Prom committee has decided to do something different this year and that is to have dress up days for the candidates the week before prom. The days for the candidates are: Monday-Under the Sea/flotation devices, Tuesday-senior citizens, Wednesday-Disney duo, and Thursday-Retro prom. It will be so fun to see everyone’s costumes and I think the younger students will really get a kick out of each day.
All in all, everyone is beyond excited for the magical night that is almost ready to be enjoyed Saturday by the students of AHS. I myself can hardly wait and all the appointments and drama and everything leading up to now will be so worth it after that “enchanted” night.
