In the past, the Jaques Art Center held an art show every three years for high school students in the area. However, it has become more popular so they changed the high school art show to every year. AHS art teacher Ms. Real said that this is her favorite art show for high school students because it involves all students from grades 7-12.
This art show involves many kids from multiple different schools. She says that this show is a great opportunity for all the student because it places the art in a more professional environment. Our school alone has about 70 art projects in the show. The types of art varies greatly, including scratch art, wildlife art, ceramics, printmaking, painting, drawing, and more.
Throughout the year Ms. Real collects the best art from all of her students, frames them, and enters them into the show. Camille Cummings has two projects entered into the art show. She painted a picture of her backyard and drew a picture of a lion. Camille said she feels that our school has some good artists who came up with some good projects. At the same time our school is smaller and lacks focus on art and may not have as many good projects as bigger schools with more kids interested in art.
The art show will be held from April 11 to May 23. If you are interested in attending the Jaques Art Show, they are open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no entry fee. Ms Real says that this year there will be better projects than ever before from our school and others.
