This week’s teacher of the week is Mrs. Brucker. She attended CLC and Bemidji State University for social studies education, and also attended Southwest Minnesota State University for a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. To start off her career, she did some long-term subbing at Brainerd High School and taught summer school there. She then got a job at the Aitkin High School and this is her 14th year teaching here. Mrs. Brucker knew that she wanted to work with teenagers and high school kids are her favorite age group of people. At first she was undecided between teaching English or social studies, but then decided on her favorite subject in school, social studies. Her favorite class to teach is sociology, but enjoys teaching them all. “My favorite thing about being a teacher is spending time with the students and hearing their perspectives,” said Mrs. Brucker.
Mrs.Brucker likes to spend time with her family, read, and watch movies. Her favorite movie is “When Harry Met Sally.” “Project Runway” and “Game of Thrones” are her favorite T.V. shows. Her favorite color is black, but if she were to pick a “real” color it would be either blue or burgundy. Mrs. Brucker’s favorite animals are dogs and cats. She likes to listen to Bon Jovi and mellow coffee house-type of music.
“The people with whom I work inspire me everyday. They are dedicated people doing great things for kids,” said Mrs. Brucker.
When asked for any words of advice, Mrs. Brucker offered the following:
“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.”
-William James, philosopher and psychologist.
