Abby Nies is a very involved senior here at Aitkin High School. She is a member of the Business Professionals of America, Peer Leaders, Concert Band, and the National Honor Society.
One thing that you may not know about Abby is that she says she is a professional at making anything from box mix, like cake, brownies, jello, etc. “You name it. I make it,” she said.
Abby has lived in Aitkin her whole life and enjoys spending time with her pets. Her pets include: Ellie May, a little black and white cat who has a profound love for peanut butter and grass; Wally, a crazy dog that she no longer takes for walks; and Charlie, a donkey that is her half-pet.
Abby's favorite classes in school are physics, because of sucker Fridays, and calculus because of snack days. Her least favorite class is public speaking because she doesn't enjoy talking in front of people very much.
An event that was life changing for her was when she traveled to New York City and was almost ran over by a bus. Nies said, “I will always look both ways now, always.” Abby looks to Leonardo Dicaprio as a role model because he never gave up and he finally got his Oscar. Next year she is planning to attend Bemidji State University, but is still undecided on what her major will be.
