Allen Balsley came to Aitkin this year as our new student counselor. He worked for 12 years contracting mental health services in Brainerd and was a licensed school counselor for the past three years at New York Mills, Princeton, and Pequot Lakes High Schools.
He finished out his senior year at Brainerd High School with the class ‘95 and then attending Bemidji State to get his degree in Psychology, followed by a school counseling degree from the American Public University in West Virginia.
Mr. Balsley enjoys fishing, hunting, playing golf, baseball, and spending time with his wife and three daughters. “I’ve known my wife since the third grade,” said Balsley. “We dated for a while in sixth grade and in junior high and in high school and throughout the college years.”
Even though Mr. Balsley won't be here any longer he will be greatly missed. “I am going to miss all the wonderful students and the truly fantastic staff that I have been lucky enough to work with,” Balsley said. “The best of luck to all.”
Paige Harwig said, “Mr. Balsley is a very good counselor. I think he helped out lot here at AHS and there are going to be many people who will miss him. I wish him the best of luck to his next place.”
